UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS The Sociology Department offers several undergraduate awards each May. The Chittick, Riley, & Sauer Scholarships have been established by the families of long-time Professors of the department. These awards both honor them and recognize the outstanding academic achievements of undergraduate students. These scholarships are very competitive and are applied for in February of each year. See this link for criteria. TED
LARSON MEMORIAL AWARD.
This award was established in 1965 by the family of Ted Larson,
an alumnus of the Sociology Department of SDSU and a graduate assistant
in Sociology at the time of his death.
Ted had compiled a most impressive record of academic achievement
during his years at SDSU.
This award is given annually to the outstanding graduating senior

in highest overall grade point average. DOUGLAS

The internship is intended to reward and encourage someone with a passion for social action. ALPHA
KAPPA DELTA CERTIFICATES.
Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the International Sociology Honor
Society. It
derives its name from "anthropon" (humankind),
"katamanthanein" (to investigate thoroughly), and
"diakonesein" (for the purpose of service).
When this phrase is translated freely, it expresses the goal of
Alpha Kappa Delta:
To study humankind for the purpose of service.
In a very real sense, AKD promotes human welfare through the
association of undergraduate and graduate students interested in
developing scientific solutions to social problems.
Membership is awarded only to those college students who have
achieved superior grades. EXIT
EXAM HONORS.
All graduating seniors from South Dakota State University are
required to take an exit examination in their field of study.
The recipients of the Sociology Exit Exam Honors Awards are those
whose performance was outstanding in these exams.
Certification in their specialty area will carry the
"HONORS" designation. For more information about these awards, contact Don Arwood, chair of the Scholarship Committee. GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS WILLIAM
