MINIMUM INTERNSHIP PREREQUISITES:

The student must be a junior or Senior, a Sociology major, have a minimum GPA of 2.20, and have the consent of the internship coordinator.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applicants must accomplish several prerequisites before signing up for credit hours.

  1. Students must download the application form.
  2. Applicants must complete the application, write a resume, and secure an appointment to meet with the internship coordinator.  Applicants should bring the application and resume to this meeting.  They should also have some idea on what "geographical" and "agency settings" they prefer.  During this interview, the coordinator and student will decide how best to contact and proceed with the placement.
  3. The internship coordinator must approve all placements and changes in these placements.
  4. Applicants should be prepared to discuss their internship goals and objectives with the supervisor at the chosen agencies.
  5. After that discussion, students will see the internship coordinator to make final plans for the placement.

ORIENTATION MEETING:

Students must attend an orientation meeting before leaving for the placement.  The date and time of this meeting will be provided well in advance; plan ahead and be there for this important meeting.  Completion of a signed contract is done at this meeting

NOTE: Students planning to intern during the SPRING 2004 semester must attend an orientation meeting on Thursday, October 9th in Scobey Hall 213 at 1:00p.m.

ON-SITE REQUIREMENTS:

Interns maintain a daily log of activities, submit a signed weekly report, and complete a final project/paper.  Interns must work approximately 40 hours for the agency for each credit hour they are registered.  Generally, a 12-credit hour internship requires 12 40-hour weeks at the agency.

GRADES:

With successful completion, students receive a "P" grade for the course.  These hours do not meet SOC/CJUS course requirements but do, of course, count towards graduation.
